Similar to the 1920s and 1930s, many of Shanghai’s newer residential developments have adopted popular Western architectural styles. The “Rancho Santa Fe” or “Lanqiao Shengfei” community was no exception. Even though the interiors and garden were a blank slate, we nevertheless committed to the Santa Fe conceit in order to maintain a continuity between interiors, architecture, landscape, and community.
