This project is a gut rehab of an early 20th century Shanghai Lanehouse, opening up and re-configuring spaces to better suit a modern family of four. The design is highly personal, embracing the client’s love of Southeast Asian design, and blending it with some of the house’s surviving elements of old Shanghai.

The main living spaces extend to a private garden that has been cleaned up and redesigned around existing trees. The second floor is dedicated to the master suite with a terrace overlooking the garden and the Shanghai skyline. And the steep roof allows additional loft-like space for the clients’ two children, with additional light from new skylights.
